A Night with Western American Artist Charles Russell
Emily Crawford Wilson will discuss the life and art of Charles Russell. Russell , 1846-1926, created more than 4,000 works of art during his lifetime. He was called "the cowboy artist" as much of his work depicted cowboys, Native Americans and landscapes in the western United States. Wilson is the former senior curator of art at the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Mont., where she developed numerous exhibitions of Russell's artwork and wrote many articles about him. Her book for young readers, "Charlie Russell and the Gnomes of Bull Head Lodge." was recently published by the South Dakota Historical Society Press. The book is sold at the Heritage Stores at the Cultural Heritage Center and the Capitol.
