About Us
The City of Fort Pierre is the local government serving South Dakota's oldest continuously occupied settlement, sitting along the Missouri River. City offices handle everything from public works and utilities to planning, zoning, and public safety for the community, while also supporting the growth happening through the Fort Pierre Development Corporation.
Fort Pierre carries deep history, from its fur trade roots to its role along the Lewis & Clark and Native American Scenic Byway trails, and that heritage shows up throughout town at spots like the Verendrye Museum, Casey Tibbs Center, and Fischers Lilly Park. It's also home to popular community events throughout the year, including Trader Days, the Central SD 4-H Rodeo, and the Street Masters Classic Auto Show.
