About Us
Discover South Dakota's rich heritage and complex history at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. The Cultural Heritage Center is home to the South Dakota State Museum and Archives.
The Museum's award winning changing exhibitions capture the spirit of South Dakota. Hands on activities offer new adventures at every turn and learning opportunities for all visitors.
The Museum is open 7 days a week. Kids 17 & under get in FREE!
The State Archives contains over 12,000 cubic feet of records that document many aspects of the history and heritage of South Dakota. With few exceptions these records are available for public research. Archival documents are used for different purposes by government officials, teachers, attorneys, students, genealogists, historians, historic preservationists, exhibit designers, authors, and journalists.
The State Archives is open Monday through Friday and the first Saturday of the month from 9:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M.
