Visitor Services and Retail Associate

Visitor Services Associates are responsible for communicating with and coordinating services for Exhibit Hall visitors by monitoring the visitor services desk and providing a safe and clean environment. The Retail Associate is in charge of SDDC Store aesthetics and inventory, keeping a clean, accessible area that is stocked with products related to the exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This position works directly with the Visitor and Facility Services Assistant and reports to the Exhibit Hall Manager. This position is similar to a “third key” position in a retail environment.
 
General Duties
● Staffing and monitoring the Visitor Services Desk by handling admissions, donations, payments,
requested statistics, checking events calendars and membership database, and advocating for
the SDDC Exhibit Hall, programs, and services.
● Enhancing our visitors’ experiences from good to excellent, which includes assisting with
exhibits, maintaining the cleanliness of our space, repairing items and displays, ensuring visitor
safety through effective communication, and sharing information necessary for visitors and
organizations to engage with our organization.
● Growing our store sales by maintaining a clean onsite space, managing inventory and
wholesale agreements, and creating an inviting space with engaging displays and decorations.
● Promoting our store by managing information on the SDDC website with the Digital Marketing
Manager and providing information to the marketing team for highlights and store features.
● All employees are expected to:
○ Communicate basic, up-to-date program and services information both in writing and
verbally to visitors and schools and organizations statewide.
○ Use our online web platform and Google Workspace, including Chat, Gmail, Calendars,
and other functions, to effectively communicate with coworkers, members, and visitors,
as well as monitor memberships, bookings, and events.
● Other duties include, but are not limited to: updating interior and exterior signage about new
and upcoming events, being onsite to support facility rentals, special events, and birthday
parties, facilitating SDDC Store sales, working with volunteers, and completing cleaning and
janitorial duties to maintain the facility.
 
Position Standards
Requirements:
● Strong visitor service and communication skills.
● Detail oriented.
● Able to use technology and office machines proficiently with a significant comfort level for
learning online systems to manage files, databases, and activities.
● Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and engage visitors of all ages in
hands-on STEM exploration.
● Willing to work in a flexible, ever-changing environment with coworkers that work independently
and as a team both on-site and remotely.
● Must be able to use stairs and be on feet often each day.

Work Hours: Negotiable. 20 hrs per week, more hours depending on event bookings.
Ideal schedule: Thurs. 12:30pm-5:30pm; Fri.-Sat. 9:00am-5:00pm.
Increased summer hours possible, May-August.

Compensation: Starting at $15.00-$16.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualification.
