This event is for all kids, including the surrounding communities.Registration begins at 8:00 AM, with a fisheries presentation by the South Dakota GF&P at 9:00 AM. Fishing begins at 9:30 AM and runs until 11:30 AM. Hot dogs, chips and cold drinks will be served immediately following the event. Prizes will be awarded for first through third places in five different age groups ranging from 1-16 yrs of age along with a prize for the biggest fish. There will be a drawing for door prizes as well as a bag of fishing tackle for each participant. Live bait will be provided. Please bring your own rod and reel if you have one, if you do not have one, there will be a limited number of them to use on a first come first serve basis. Last year there were 155 kids present and roughly 100 fish were caught.
Parents or guardians must register their children, and ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult during the event. Pictures of the participants will be taken by the High Plains Wildlife members and may be used for publication in the future.
The H.P.W.A Kids Fishing Day corresponds with the FREE fishing and FREE park entrance weekend in South Dakota State Parks, making it a great opportunity for parents and their children to enjoy the great outdoors together.
