Book Talk
Nancy Tystad Koupal will discuss the new book from the South Dakota Historical Society Press about Laura Ingalls Wilder, "Pioneer Girl: The Revised Texts." Wilder finished her memoir of the Ingalls family's pioneering experiences in 1930, when she was 63 years old. The manuscript did not find a publisher. Ingalls and her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, transformed the autobiography into what became the "Little House" series. "Pioneer Girl: The Revised Texts" presents three typescripts of Wilder's manuscript side by side, showing the revisions made to each manuscript. A fourth column contains annotations that provide historical context and explore the ways in which Wilder or Lane changed the material. The book shows the working relationship between the two women. The book a available for purchase at the Heritage Store at the Cultural Heritage Center..
