The Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns n' Hoses blood drive started 16 years ago by Tyler, who was battling cancer. Tyler wanted to help replenish the blood he used during his cancer treatments, which is estimated at 189 units of blood products. Tyler's father, Bob Wilcox, was a volunteer firefighter in Fort Pierre at the time. Bob and Tyler were able to schedule a blood drive with the fire department, however sadly, Tyler did not live to see his wish come true. He passed away before the first blood drive in December of 2005. In Tyler's honor, the blood drive has been continued and is now a four day, friendly competition between the fire and police department. Tyler would be proud to know that his efforts have helped save countless lives since 2005.
