May 2021 CVB Report

May 2021 CVB Report

Everyone is ready for spring. The Pierre Convention & Visitors Bureau will focus the first week in May on National Travel & Tourism Week. The Pierre CVB joins various cities and travel-related businesses statewide to talk about the importance of tourism in South Dakota and exploring the attractions and unique spots in our own back yards.

The CVB has been working hard to distribute the new visitor guides. We have gotten a lot of positive feed back on the new design and layout of the guide. We are so excited to share them with the community and our visitors.

On May 4, the Pierre CVB will travel to Rapid City for a Lit Swap. The Lit Swap is a great way to drop off our visitors guide for the Interstate Information Centers and to connect with other travel professionals in the state. Over 1,500 visitor guides will be delivered to Centers and other communities at the event.

With the summer tourism season quickly approaching, I want to encourage those who work in the hospitality and tourism industry to check out the South Dakota Department of Tourism’s online hospitality training program. The program is free and available to any travel and tourism industry partners as a tool for training staff. This training is primarily meant from employees on the front-lines and provides the basic skills needed to be successful in welcoming visitors to Pierre. Information about the training can be found on the Department of Tourism’s website at https://sdvisit.com/training-hospitality/online-hospitality-training. I also encourage managers and business owners to stress the importance of sharing all the great things Pierre has to offer with visitors when they ask questions about our community. Making them feel welcome and excited to explore our community will keep those visitors coming back into the future.
It looks to be an eventful summer bringing many visitors to Pierre. Greet visitors with enthusiasm and represent the great community that we live in with pride.
