July 2021 President's Report
June 30th officially changes the head of leadership at the Pierre Area Chamber. Jamie Seiner has continued to lead the staff over the last 4 months on contract, while also taking on her new position. I am not sure ‘thank you,’ can adequately express how much we appreciate Jamie’s time and commitment to the Chamber over the last few years. Her drive, hard work and dedication to the Pierre area are second to none. Moving forward, the board and I are excited about the new chapter that Sara Rankin will bring in, with new eyes and perspective that will no doubt continue to lead the Chamber to great things.
In other news, the city of Pierre has seen a significant uptick in travel to the area over the past month! With the $2 per night occupancy tax generated from hotel and motel stays, Oahe Day’s, Buckin’ on the River, rodeos, softball and baseball tournaments, class reunions and weddings all have a large positive impact on the city, its revenue, and its future.
Along with the increase in travel is the influx of visitors to area businesses. Please remember to be patient and kind to staff as wait times and check-out lines may be longer than usual. Businesses across the country are short-staffed, and the Pierre area has not gone unaffected by this national trend. Continue to show those around you grace as we all adjust to life slowly going back to ‘normal.’
