What Does the Fair Labor Standards Act Mean for Your Business?
Starting December 1, 2016, all businesses must comply with the new federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Act says any employee who earns less than $47,476 must be converted to nonexempt status and paid overtime wages.
The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, October 26 to talk about the FLSA. The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation will be on hand to answer questions about how the law might apply to our member businesses.
There is no fee for chamber members. The event is open to non-members at $10 per person.
Prior to the meeting, businesses are encouraged to review the FLSA at http://dlr.sd.gov/wagehrs/overtime.aspx
