Wreaths Across America Program Set
PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Funeral Directors Association will again participate in Wreaths Across America, a national program which pays tribute to fallen veterans of all wars during the Christmas season. A formal wreath presentation will be held at the Flaming Fountain Veterans Memorial on Capitol Lake in Pierre at 11:00 AM (Central Time) on Monday, December 14, 2020. The theme for 2020 is “Be An American Worth Fighting For”.
The national wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 12:00 Noon EST. This will be the Wreaths Across America organization’s 29th year of laying wreaths at our Nation’s cemetery (www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org).
This year will be our 14th annual wreath laying ceremony. We are truly honored to have Major General Jeffrey P. Marlette, The Adjutant General of South Dakota, be our featured speaker this year. Terry Rietveld, President of the SD Funeral Directors Association, will serve as master of ceremonies. Additional participants in the South Dakota ceremony scheduled at this time are the Executive Board and members of the SD Funeral Directors Association, Pierre Post 8 American Legion, Stanley/Fort Pierre Post 20 American Legion, Charles E. Thorne VFW Post 2038, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18, Father Joseph Holzhauser, Oahe Marine Corps League, Order of the Purple Hearts, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 8, Vietnam Era Veterans Association, and Voiture 522 of the 40/8. The public is encouraged to attend to help pay tribute to fallen soldiers during the Christmas season.
The South Dakota Funeral Directors Association is a professional association that represents the funeral service professionals and the funeral home establishments in the state. The Association provides education, legislative representation and public relations statewide.
