''Ten HR Challenges that Should Keep You up at Night''
Central SD SHRM has scheduled an educational session titled "Ten HR Challenges that Should Keep You up at Night" from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. on September 11th, 2008, held at the Chamber of Commerce in Pierre, SD. This session will be presented by Laurie McIntosh, SHRM's North Central Regional Manager. There is a nominal fee of $10.00 for non-members. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Nicole Ogan, nicoleo@sdbor.edu. This interactive and provocative presentation looks at ten challenges that HR and diversity professionals must consider, and keep top of mind, as they prepare their organizations to compete in a global economy. Among the challenges discussed are maintaining a strategic focus, aligning with business objectives, building a pipeline with leadership capabilities, developing HR competencies, and dealing with rising health care costs. The audience will leave with 2-3 key takeaways on preparing and implementing HR strategies to address each challenge. Laurie McIntosh was named SHRM's North Central Regional Manager on May 5, 2008. Previously, she worked in the HR profession for over 15 years with industry experience in health care, consumer packaged goods and banking. She has also served in a variety of SHRM volunteer roles, including president of the Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM), a Super Mega chapter in Omaha, Nebraska. Laurie was named HRAM's HR Volunteer of the Year in 2003. She has served on SHRM's National Membership Task Force and most recently held the position of State Director for Nebraska's State Council and was a member of the North Central Regional Council. This program has been approved for 1.0 (Specified -Strategic) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
