
One Book South Dakota Event
South Dakota Author Dan O'Brien in the area on Thursday, August 13th. Prairie Pages Bookseller has organized an exciting day of events. Starting at 3:30pm at Wakpa Sica Reconciliation Place, a reception and booksigning will be held. All are welcome, free and open to the public. Meet the author Dan O'Brien, enjoy refreshments, and have your copy of "Buffalo for the Broken Heart" signed. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the reception. 5:15pm: Conversation with the author. Long time friend and hunting companion, Jerry Pier, will introduce Dan O'Brien and share stories. The author will speak about native prairie life, ranching in South Dakota, and the 2009 One-Book South Dakota selection "Buffalo for the Broken Heart" 6:00pm: Shuttle service or drive yourself to the Buffalo Interpretive Center located on the Native American Scenic Byway on highway 1806 south, approximatley 6 miles from Fort Pierre. 6:30pm: "Traditional Bison Feed hosted by Lower Brule Sioux Tribe". All are welcome - free and open to the public. The evening includes tours of the pastures to view the bison herd, cultural programs, sampling of Lakota products, hands-on exhibits, and intrepretive videos. The gift shop, featuring items made by Native American artisans, will be open. 7:00pm: Tribal Chair Mike Jandrea will introduce Dan O'Brien who will give a talk on "Respect for the buffalo, what we have learned".
