National Get Outdoors Day
The Oahe Project, in conjunction with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Fort Pierre National Grasslands, and the City of Pierre will host an event to help launch National Get Outdoors Day as well as the City of Pierre’s Go Green and Clean campaign on Sat., June 12, 2010.
A wide variety of activities will be available for families as well as civic and volunteer groups from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Steamboat Park. Beginning at 8 a.m., the city will host their kickoff for the Go Green and Clean campaign. Volunteers will be asked to help pick up our parks and recreation areas. A free lunch will follow for volunteers. If you are interested in helping with the June 12th cleanup, please contact Tom Farnsworth.
In addition to cleanup effort, the Oahe Project, SD GFP, and Fort Pierre National Grasslands will hold their annual National Get Outdoors Day, which is a free day encouraging Americans, especially our youth, to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives and embrace our parks, forest, refuges and other public lands and waters.
The event will start at 9 a.m. with a nature hike through LaFramboise. Other events include presentations by the Sioux Falls Great Plains Zoo, a demonstration on Dutch Oven cooking, fishing derby and a chance to test your skills on the water with the Corps’ water safety boats.
