Museum Activity Day: In the Stars
The South Dakota State Historical Society Museum is switching Museum Activity Day in February to a “take-to-make” program this year. The theme for this year is “In the Stars”. Visitors can pick up take-to-make bags on Sunday February 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. Two projects will be in the pickup bag. One is a four-sided star quilt ornament and the other is a coloring sheet of the Big Dipper within the Ursa Major (Great Bear) constellation with star stickers to add to the sheet. Information about Lakota meanings for the Big Dipper are included on the back of the coloring sheet. Instructional videos for the ornament will be posted on the Museum’s website and Facebook page. In keeping with the tradition of serving ice cream at this event visitors can also pick up a freeze-dried ice cream bar to take home and enjoy.
