Legislators are scheduled to end the Main Run of Session tomorrow, and things look on track to meet that goal. The Appropriations Committee is putting the finishing touches on its budget package, four conference committees are meeting, and the final piece of a property tax package needs to be considered. Legislators will return to Pierre on March 30 for Veto Day.
Legislators are also in the process of adopting the legislative calendar for 2027. The Joint Committee on Legislative Procedure has recommended a 38-day session that looks remarkably like this year’s calendar. The 2027 Session will convene at noon on Tuesday, January 12, as required by the Constitution. The proposal includes eight four-day work weeks, one five-day week, and Veto Day on March 31.
The Chamber will provide a more comprehensive legislative overview next week. If you have questions or would like more information about a specific topic, please send an email to manderson@pierre.org and we will help you.
The Chamber is also in the process of organizing a candidate forum for all those who will be having a primary election on June 2. Candidates have until the end of March to submit their nominating petitions.
The final On-air Legislative Forum is scheduled for this Saturday, March 14, starting at 9:30 a.m. on KCCR Radio. If you have questions for the legislators, please email them to zach@kccrradio.com.
