PEDCO Scholarships Help Address Workforce Needs

Two scholarships are being offered through PEDCO to help local businesses get qualified employees into their future hiring pipeline.

PEDCO is funding $500 scholarships to each of the first 10 students who enroll in the new Dakota Wesleyan University Learn & Earn program that starts this fall at Capital City Campus. Learn & Earn incorporates a part-time internship component so that businesses can begin providing workplace-specific training while evaluating the student's potential for long-term employment. The Pierre Build Dakota Business Partner Scholarship will assist local businesses with the cost of sponsoring a student pursuing high-demand degrees at any of the state’s four technical colleges. When a business agrees to sponsor a student by paying half the tuition cost, the student is assured of a full-ride scholarship, with Build Dakota picking up the other half. PEDCO, with support from the City of Pierre, will pay half of the businesses cost as long as they are current PEDCO members. Upon graduation, the student is required to work at the sponsoring business for at least three years.
