Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000

This position develops and implements member recruitment, retention strategies, and reviews member benefits to strengthen the base of the Chamber of Commerce. The Director of Programs & Events will also manage the annual events hosted by the Chamber.
This position serves as a staff liaison for the Capital Area Networking (CAN) group, manages budget for assigned budget categories and communicates to CEO, and other duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the CEO.
Recruitment
- Monitor business activity in Pierre and Fort Pierre to develop leads of potential Chamber members
- Maintain membership database with contact and relevant information in Chamber Master
- Contact prospects, explain the benefits of becoming a Chamber member, and turn prospects into members
- Send membership information packets to business who inquire about becoming a Chamber member
- Develop and implement programs designed to help members grow and sustain their businesses
Retention
- Order membership plaques and distribute to members as they renew
- Schedule member visits for with CEO
- Conduct a yearly review of membership benefits to ensure benefits are in line with expectations
- Answer member questions and troubleshoot situations as needed
- Oversee membership processing to ensure appropriate record keeping, reporting, and database maintenance
Communication
- Send Onboarding communications to new members
- Prepare annual membership renewal and follow up letters
- Send membership invoices and follow up on unpaid invoices
- Prepare monthly list of new and renewed members for newsletter and board meetings
- Report membership and cash flow progress to CEO
- Contact members for the new business and long-standing business profiles
- Write articles for Chamber newsletter
Event Management
- Organize events for new or prospective members
- Schedule ribbon cuttings, open houses, ground breakings, and other Chamber functions
- Organize educational events (power hour, lunch and learn, etc.) that can help local businesses
- Ensure Chamber events are consistently marketed to appropriate audiences
- Enter event information into Chamber Master for display on community calendar
- Schedule and plan annual Chamber events with Marketing & Events Coordinator
- Work with Marketing & Events Coordinator on event logistics
- Brainstorm ideas for new events
Committees
- Capital Area Networking Group (CAN)
- Attend meetings and serve as staff liaison for the committee
- Reserve meeting space and send out meeting reminders to committee members
- Assist with arrangements for special events as related to the committee
- Follow up with staff support for upcoming projects as needed
- Work with group to brainstorm new ideas to recruit and retain Chamber members
