The South Dakota State Historical Records Advisory Board is hosting a workshop on book preservation on Monday, April 6, in Pierre. The workshop takes place from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Cultural Heritage Center. The program is free, although seating is limited. Beginning Book Preservation will be conducted by Kelly Face, a book preservationist from Aberdeen. Face has specialized in book repair and preservation and received her Master's degree in Book Arts from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. The workshop will include an overview of common repair issues and a triage approach to how to handle them. Face will demonstrate basic repair techniques and discuss what is/it not appropriate for rare books. Participants will create a book binder of their own to use in their collections.
