"The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder tells of the struggles of the Ingalls family and others living in De Smet during the winter of 1880-1881. Cindy Wilson drew on regional newspapers and historical photographs in writing "The Beautiful Snow: The Ingalls Family, the Railroads, and the Hard Winter of 1880-81." The book tells what really happened that winter. Wilson will tell about her research and review the weather, food fuel, the efforts by the railroads to battle the snow during her talk.
