Job Description
The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a creative, bold and passionate leader to be our new Pierre Convention and Visitors Bureau Director. This person will identify, create and manage initiatives to bring visitors to the Pierre area and seek ways to enhance the visitor experience. Pierre Convention and Visitors Bureau Director

Reports to Chamber CEO
This position is responsible for development, implementation and successful execution of plans and programs designed to encourage, promote and maximize conventions, tourism marketing and visitor business for the Pierre area.
This position represents the Chamber, manages budget, works closely with the Chamber team, and performs other duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce CEO.   
  • Develop budget and annual marketing plan that identifies key market segments, target audience and reach
  • Create media placement budget and advertising methods to achieve the goals of the marketing plan
  • Work with the SD Office of Tourism, Fort Pierre Tourism, Missouri River Tourism, area attractions, hotels and others in the hospitality industry to develop and expand marketing ideas and partnerships
  • Monitor trends in visitor spending and be reactive with marketing plan and budget
  • Develop, design, ensure accuracy, budget, timeliness, and distribution of visitor publications
  • Identify opportunity for new events and support area venues and facilities by assisting with bids for conventions, conferences and meetings in Pierre
  • Welcome new visitors at area events with opening remarks, visitor bags and information about what to do in the Pierre area as they visit
  • Support local events and activities that bring in visitors by evaluating sponsorship requests and awarding as budget allows
  • Identify as the spokesperson for the visitor industry in Pierre, SD
  • Communicate with city leaders about events and budget, presenting annual budget for the City of Pierre
  • Actively participate in major industry organizations and associations and represent the Pierre area at seminars and conferences which enhance Pierre Convention & Visitors Bureau and Chamber activities
  • Prepare on arrangements for bus groups and contact tourism attractions, lining up guides for city tours
  • Monitor and websites to ensure accuracy of relevant information
  • Develop, design and maintain methods to communicate and form relationships with visitors for the area
  • Write press releases and provide communication about area activities to support the success of area events
  • Write monthly Convention and Visitor Bureau column and provide tourism content for the monthly Chamber newsletter
  • Work as a team with other Chamber staff and volunteers to accomplish work plan and maximize reach
 Events & Involvement
  • Plan promotions for Tourism Week, hunters welcome, Capital Christmas tree display, and more
  • Create and support additional tourism related events or special projects to promote the community and bring in visitors
  • Serve on the Hospitality and Sports and Recreation committees of the Chamber as the staff liaison
  • Assist Chamber with various events as needed
 Performs other duties as assigned
